I suppose that it would be good to have a place for us, the (former) players, to make proposals for reworking the game to get around some of the issues that plagued version 1 and thus cause admin to see potential profit from a re-release.

Thus I proclaim this thread for that stated purpose. Please propose and discuss, for it is all that is within our power to bring about a version 2.

Well i was thinking for V.2 ToG the map of California as a possibility, using the counties as territories

While the proposal and development of additional maps should be done to keep people interested in a second release, I think that the main issue needing tackling would be how the game operates.
Admin said that it seemed that a lot of new players ceased playing because ToG had a very specific set of time commitments - you needed to be online around updates to have a good shot of winning. In cybernations for example, checking one's nation daily at any time is usually sufficient, but for ToG, one needed to be around at a specific time or else face a massive disadvantage built in to the game mechanics. Trying to brainstorm a work-around to this fact should be the top priority of one wanting to see a version 2.

There isn't much you can do about the time commitment, it is just the nature of the game. Even if we do some system where people can take their turns in advance, and then at a pre-determined time they will all be executed the turns would be out of wack.

Glad to see that admin is making a v2, and hopefully it will stick, one thing i think would be interesting is a satelite view of the territory, not just a map.

Another idea is an added style of game play where you could go back and forth, instead of timed turns, like a chess game, with an option of email alerts when your opponent has made his move.

This is to decrease the time commitment
Maybe he should decrease the choices for the length of turns, say have all the short ones, you know, 1.5 min-15 min. But after that only have 12 h. and 24 h. Then, for All the 12 h. and 24 h. ones, he could make it so that regardless of when the creator started the game, the first turn would only occur at a set time, so that all of the longer games had a turn at say, 7 pm ET and then the 12 h. ones would also have turns at 7 am ET. That way all your longer games would update around the same time and you wouldn't have to be constantly getting on throughout the day if you didn't want to fall behind. If you play the shorter games though, I would figure that you already have a lot of time on your hands so the time commitment wouldn't matter.

The main purpose of V.2 is to rework the structure of game, not the maps. While new maps will defiantly be added come a V.2, now is not the time to discuss them, as much as it is to discuss the structure of the game itself.

Glad to see that admin is making a v2, and hopefully it will stick, one thing i think would be interesting is a satellite view of the territory, not just a map.

Another idea is an added style of game play where you could go back and forth, instead of timed turns, like a chess game, with an option of email alerts when your opponent has made his move.

A satellite view was available of each map, where available by google maps. I believe the option was in a box in the top right corner of each tactical map, but don't quote me on that.

Also, good suggestion with the chess Idea, but then how would 10 player games work, and how would it be set so that the first person to move did not receive a huge advantage, with the last person to move having an extremely low chance of survival?

While commitment did become an issue, part of the game's strategies was preparing yourself for the time you were away, and then being able to capitalize on your opponent, with the gains you had made during your absence. The only problem with having all games update at once, is an unfair starting time would then be chosen for a lot of players, causing them to become unable to play. Although as suggested before, the leader could always per-determine the time at which the game would start, and be unable to change that while any players were in the game.
